Carving flatters the soul
Silvia Delago brings wood to life.

Silvia Delago has kept up with the times. Her sculptures grow into life, her figures communicate with viewers.

Silvia works intensively on her figures. She often develops some sculptures multiple times, always with the desire to make them speak. Her carved objects suit modern living spaces, her wood reliefs tell visual stories from life, both past and present. She rarely carves sacred items, but gladly does so on request. What Silvia is working on

Silvia Delago from Val Gardena has been carving since she can remember. Before she even held a pencil, she wielded tools like chisels and carving knives.

Silvia closely watched her father's skilled hands. In his workshop in Bulla near Ortisei, he shaped sacred figures, Madonnas, and crosses. Soon, Silvia made her decision: she also wanted to become a sculptor. She completed her training at the Grödner Provincial Vocational School for Arts and Crafts and joined the long tradition of carving art in the Val Gardena.

Silvia Delago takes craftsmanship up into the mountains and into her dreams. Nature, the works of other artists, and conversations with strangers inspire her.

Silvia Delago is delighted when her art finds the right place and is effectively showcased in living spaces even beyond South Tyrol.

As a mother of two daughters and operator of an artist's guesthouse (arbea.it), Silvia's time is limited. But in every free minute, Silvia carves, chisels, and models her works. She uses wood from local forests. The material is warm, clean, and leaves no waste. Silvia recharges herself; the activity brings her peace.

Thank you letters, photos, and voice messages testify to the joy of people who spread Silvia's works in house entrances, living rooms, offices, and meeting rooms. She prefers to carve what comes from her soul, but also gladly works on commission.
